Thank you Dr. Abby. Just stumbled upon your channel and you taught me a lot. I have a suspicious spot on my leg that I didn’t think was anything until I saw your video. I am going to make an appointment to get it checked out.
I had a squamous cell carcinoma right in the center of my head. I had mohs surgery just last week and all is well. I chose to leave my incision open. It's healing nicely. I had a basel cell carcinoma on the corner of my right eye. Mohs surgery was very invasive and my surgeon really had a tough time with it. I think he did three excissions. In was stage 2. My daughter had a malignant melanoma. That was nasty as well. Thank you for this video.
Nice to see info on skin cancer & other topics and not just anti-aging from dermatologists! Thank you! Not expecting an answer but would a typical PCP recognize these things as cancerous? I'm noticing my insurance really gatekeeps access to dermatologists.
I went to my PCP for a rapidly growing "horn " on my upper arm. She examined and surgically removed it right then. Sent for biopsy, it was squamous cell. Very grateful for her!!
Thank you Dr. I have had both BCC and squamous cc. This video is so well done and informative. Just a matter of time before more develops so I found your presentation so helpful. Thanks again.
Very informative video! If a patient has tight or thin skin on top of the scalp, how does this impact a Mohs surgery? Would skin grafts be required if the skin could not reliably be pulled together for stitching?
Thanks for sharing this I wish I known it before I went for my appt with my extremely rushed plastic surgeon who did not explain what a 5mm punch biopsy was. Now I’m wondering why he didn’t do a sheet biopsy. I have what I assumed was a bcc right next to my tear duct / omto the side of my nose. I assumed I’d have MOHs immediately. I’ve been waiting nearly 3 weeks and at least now when I get the phone call I will know what to expect. Alarmingly though it did not look like any of the pictures and it had been there for at least 3 years. I have subbed and hope everyone watching gets the best outcome ❤
I got told I had it today! So annoyed 😢 I had a biopsy and had my result today. I’m young, I do sports and love life. Mines right in the middle of my forehead 😭😂 So I have to go back and get more cut out. Also, thanks for your info.
Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. The forhead is rather forgiving in terms of scars. You can still enjoy the sports and outdoor activities you love (i personally do a ton of outdoor activities) just be good with hats, long sleeves and sunscreen going forward
Great video! I went to dermatologist about the pearly bump on my nose. She said don’t do anything it was fine. About 18 months later went to plastic surgeon. He had to redo my nose. He said it was as big as the end of his thumb on inside of my nose. Dermatologist failed me.
Thanks Abby. For now trying to accept the Basal rash on the facial checks. It appears , subsides leaving scaring then reappears next door. Thanks, Happy Holidays!
Basosquamous carcinoma has features of both Basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Overall, basosquamous can act more aggressively than BCC but as long as they’re smaller than a quarter and treated with surgery the prognosis is excellent
@ thanks for letting me know. I had two spots on both sides of the tip of my nose, my dermatologist scraped out both of them, now it’s mohs time, this is my third mohs. Hate it!
Thank you so much for this great video! Your information about niacinamide is so good. I can't find a supplement that is actually niacinamide - they say that on the front, but the ingredient lists niacin. Can you recommend a supplement that is niacinamide?
I had sores on eyelids. Ingrown hairs. And on chin. They hurt and could bleed for a long time. Took me 4 years to finely heal. Sometimes 2 hairs coming out of one pore. Had to remove hair or it wouldn't heal. Red & inflammed.
The cream doesn’t scar but it can’t always be used since it doesn’t penetrate deep into the skin for deeper skin cancers. Mohs or other surgery scars initially but then fades over a year. Radiation can lead to scarring over several years so I never recommend that for young patients
My wife is a Hopkins/Mayo trained derm. She calls Florida a cancer farm. She has a great line when patients ask her about everything except derm. "I'm an outside doc you need a inside doc." :) She goes through all the same patient reluctance. She calls the ones that hide ostriches. She found 2 melanomas last week. Funny story. Our first date she never heard of the pimple popper. We were at an outdoor sidewalk cafe and I was showing her who Dr. Lee is. Waiter came over and stated he loved the pimple popper. So Dr. Lee was removing a cyst and my date/wife states "that's going to come back". I know you know why. I thought she was nuts this is Dr. Lee after all. Very next video was the return of the cyst. I knew I had a keeper. :) Do faux Mohs Society trained docs annoy you as much as it does her? Patient : My last Moh's doc took it off in one layer. I don't like that other guy who keeps taking layers and makes me wait in the waiting room. :)
@@doctor-abby Sunny So. Fl. Just had a family member graduate from Harvard Med. Going into Peds. Neuro. Wife tried to talk them into Peds Derm but it didn't work. Dr Abby, Diagnosed squamous cancer 10 yrs ago. I was just diagnosed with a rare disease called: Prurigo Nodularis. I also had gram negative in the beginning . I will have intense itching before it comes in, the itching can be severe but the pain is terrible. They bleed alot. Also I had muscle breakdown and Perifial neuropathy . Been to 10 Dermatologist. Also Raynards. Suggestions?
Prurigo nodularis is tough to control but often silicone gel sheeting over the lesions will help them heal and prevent itching and bleeding. You could talk to your doctor about topical steroids and antihistamines to help with itching
In June I had part of my tongue removed due to Squamous Cell Carcinoma from HPV. I now have what the PA thinks is folliculitus on my chest. But it has not responded to oral antibiotics. Next visit coming up. Could it be basal cell due to the HPV?
My bcc is on my neck and your saying i can use the cream flouracel,,i know i butchered it,,my dr said cream is not for this,im confused are they just seeking profits for surgery,i might cut it out myself
Some basal cell carcinomas can’t be treated with cream since the tumor is invading too deep. They usually have an idea of whether it will work based on the initial biopsy. Words like “superficial” suggest it can be treated with the cream and “nodular” or “infiltrative” don’t respond too well to the cream
Why do the biopsy and not cut out the whole thing right away? I am afraid of spreading cancel cells into my bloodstream through cutting it in the middle. Isn't its safer to cut around right away if I don't wantbto risk the spread? My life matters to me much more than aesthetics, so the benefit of not having a big scar is smaller than more successfully avoiding potential spread even if the risk is small.
Skin Carcinomas don’t behave like sarcomas or lymphomas so there’s no risk of spread when you cut through it. Also, the goal is always to try to cut it out in one go but often BCC and SCC are 3 dimensional under the skin and so what you think is a clear margin turns out to still have cancer present and you have to go back for another stage
I have has 123 - yes 123 BCC's removed to date. I have Gorlin Syndrome. I have had them from the very top of my head to my shins, yes including my pelvic area.
@doctor-abby i have another syndrome - Ehlers Danlos type 2. Myself and my youngest son are believed to be the only people with both syndromes. Whenever I'm put on medications, for some reason I become VERY ILL. Just like when they put me on Efudex. If you saw me you would have thought I suffered from 2nd degree burns. For now, I just get my spots removed by either freezing, shaved or by MOHS. I know there are more and more treatments in the pipeline.
I watched a video with a very attractive woman who prefaced the her picture of a forehead flap with “look at me now, this is the after” If i had seen the forehead flap picture first, I would have never believed it could heal as well as it did.

@ Hi Dr. Unfair question. What dermatologist would you pick at MassBrigham Foxborough for history of BCC and SCC for yearly preventative treatment?
Excellent and informative video!
Glad it’s helpful
Thank you for sharing doc!!!
Very informative video! If a patient has tight or thin skin on top of the scalp, how does this impact a Mohs surgery? Would skin grafts be required if the skin could not reliably be pulled together for stitching?
Sometimes yes. We also do flaps to close the wound and if there’s no hair, then it can be left to heal on its own.
Thanks so much for making this video

Have you got the results of the biopsy? You may want to call the office if not since 3 weeks is pretty long to wait for a biopsy result. Good luck
I hope you had a successful mohs treatment. Stay well
I had basal cell carcinoma on the tip of my nose. It was very small. Had surgery and now I have a big ugly scar down the middle of my nose.
Often that scar will fade over six months to a year. Can use silicone gel sheeting and talk to your doctor about laser or other scar revision

Is there a difference between basil cell and basosquamous carcinoma? One of my pathology reports says that’s what I had. Thank you!
Basosquamous carcinoma has features of both Basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Overall, basosquamous can act more aggressively than BCC but as long as they’re smaller than a quarter and treated with surgery the prognosis is excellent
@ Thank you for the reply and explanation! 🙂
I’m having mohs surgery in a about two weeks, would it help to use the cream leading up to the surgery?
No. Often that can make the area so red then it becomes difficult to find the biopsy site. Good luck with your surgery 👍👍
@ thanks for letting me know. I had two spots on both sides of the tip of my nose, my dermatologist scraped out both of them, now it’s mohs time, this is my third mohs. Hate it!

As long as it says niacin (as niacinamide) then it’s ok. I like the NOW brand

I also had sores on my scalp. With a circular ridge around the sore. And would never scab until recently.

Which treatment option leaves no scars.?

It’s very unlikely. Most common cause of folliculitis is either bacteria or fungus
@doctor-abby thanks for the quick reply, right now she suspects folliculitis, may need a biopsy. I'm 72, so scars are the least of my worries.

What about the source of all cancers, where all cancers originate from?
How do you remove the source of all cancers, which is the human being?
I'm having Mohs Surgery on Jan 21st 2025 for Basal Cell Carcinoma on my hairline.
Good luck. I’m sure you’ll do well
Can you speak to Moles that turn to cancer wirh Photos.
Yes although most cancers actually arise from normal skin and not moles
are there homeopathic ways to kill off the topical cells...honey? B3? etc??
None that are proven. There is a topical immunotherapy that triggers your own immune system to target the bad cells. This is called imiquimod
No. Do you know what homeopathy actually is?🤦🏼
On your bald head, no doubt.
